BRIEF: Chicago woman killed in Stickney car crash

Jan. 28--A 54-year-old Chicago woman was killed in a car crash in west suburban Stickney on Wednesday afternoon, closing down traffic near the 4300 block of Harlem Avenue for over three hours.

The woman and a passenger were traveling north on Harlem in the left lane about 12:28 p.m. when a semitrailer truck struck their Toyota Corolla while apparently changing lanes, said Deputy Chief Richard Jaczak, of the Stickney Police Department.

The car spun into oncoming traffic, where it was hit by a southbound Ford Contour, Jaczak said. The passenger in the Corolla and the driver of the Ford were transported to area hospitals with no life-threatening injuries, he said.

He said police can't release the identity of the victim until the family has been notified. Jaczak said that stretch of Harlem reopened about 4 p.m.

The crash is still under investigation.
