BRIEF: Chicago singer Jeremih announces new project, Kanye collaboration

Feb. 08--Kanye West's upcoming album may have more Chicago influence than fans expected.

Chicago singer Jeremih, who hails from the South Side, said he has been writing recently for Nicki Minaj and West, who also grew up on the South Side.

"For the last week we've been doing some writing for Nicki, for Kanye," Jeremih told Billboard magazine Friday. "I'm not sure really where he's at with his album right now, or if he's actually going to use the work that we've done -- but if he doesn't use it, I sure will."

West's album, once called "Swish" and "Waves," is due out Thursday. Chicago's Chance the Rapper also collaborated with West.

Jeremih, who was born Jeremy Felton, said he plans to release his next project, "Later That Night," soon. He dropped "Late Nights: The Album" in December. He released a "Late Nights" mixtape in 2012.

"I gave them the mixtape, I dropped the album -- now I want to give them a complete trilogy of work," he said.
