BRIEF: Chicago sells another 176 vacant lots for $1 each

April 24--Chicago removed another 176 vacant lots from its rolls Friday, selling them to residents of the East Garfield Park neighborhood for $1 each.

The transactions, part of the city's Large Lots Program, follows the sale earlier this year of 276 lots in the Englewood area. The city received 120 applications for 248 available lots in the Austin community, and those are currently being processed, according to the city.

In East Garfield Park, the city offered 417 vacant residential lots for sale and received 319 applications. The program restricts buyers to property owners already on the block who are current on their property taxes and have no outstanding debts with the city.
