BRIEF: Chicago performing at Chi-Town Rising

Nov. 19--Maybe we should have seen this coming?

Chi-Town Rising, the city's answer to the ball drop in New York's Times Square, has booked "Saturday in the Park" and "Hard to Say I'm Sorry" band Chicago for its first annual New Year's Eve celebration.

The free event is scheduled to take place along Upper Wacker Drive and plans to feature a 70-foot, six-point "Chicago" star rising 360 feet up the Hyatt Regency Chicago's west tower at midnight. The countdown will be followed by fireworks and a performance by Chicago on a stage in front of the Hyatt.

The festivities are set to begin at 8 p.m. and beginning at 11 p.m. they will air live on NBC and Telemundo locally, with "Best Day of My Life" band American Authors kicking off the broadcast. Chi-Town Rising, which is being produced by Arena Partners, is expected to draw "tens of thousands" attendees, according to a spokesperson for the event.
