BRIEF: Chicago native Jennifer Beals lands 'Taken' prequel role

March 16--Chicago native Jennifer Beals has landed a leading role on the NBC series "Taken," a prequel to the film franchise that starred Liam Neeson, Deadline reported Wednesday.

Beals, 52, confirmed the news on Twitter. She's slated to play the special deputy director of national intelligence, who takes operative Bryan Mills under her wing. Neeson played Mills in the three "Taken" movies and the TV part is slated to be played by British actor Clive Standen.

Beals, who grew up in in the Chatham neighborhood and on the North Side, starred on the TNT show "Proof" until it was canceled in September after one season. She was cast in the Zoey Deutch film "Before I Fall," due out later this year.
