BRIEF: Chicago Fire Department spokesman injured in crash

Jan. 08--A Chicago Fire Departent spokesman crashed a department vehicle on the way to work Wednesday morning near Lake Shore Drive and Interstate 55.

"He's at home, he's fine,'' Fire Department spokesman Larry Langford said of colleague Will Knight, who crashed while driving a "department car.''

"He spun on some black ice and hit the wall,'' Langford said. "Nobody else was involved.''

According to the Illinois State Police, Knight was behind the wheel of a city-owned but self insured 2004 Ford Crown Victoria that crashed at 8:23 a.m. on a ramp from southbound Lake Shore Drive to I-55 southbound. The crash happened just north of King Drive.

"It was a one-vehicle spinout,'' a state trooper said.

The driver of the vehicle was taken to Mercy Hospital and Medical Center with "very minor injuries,'' the trooper said.

No citations were written, according to state police.
