BRIEF: Chicago Dramatists announces 2015-16 season

Sept. 21--Chicago Dramatists has announced its 2015-16 season, the first without Russ Tutterow and with new artistic director Meghan Beals.

"Beautiful Autistic" (Feb. 4 -- March 14) by Scott Woldman opens the season. Rachel Edwards Harvith, associate artistic director of the company, directs the dark comedy about an autistic young man and his less-than-suave wingman looking for love in Wrigleyville bars.

Dana Lynn Formby's "American Beauty Shop" (April 28 -- June 5) follows. Megan Shuchman directs the story of a single-mother who has big dreams for her basement beauty shop and her college-bound daughter.

The season will also include The Grafting Project, a new program that provides five weeks of rent-free theatre space to a company interested in producing a world-premiere play written by a Chicago Dramatist resident playwright. Pegasus Theatre's production of Nambi E. Kelley's "For Her as a Piano" fills the inaugural slot, opening Oct. 4.

Founded in 1979, Chicago Dramatists remains dedicated to playwrights and the cultivation of new work. Distinguished alumni include Tina Fey, Lydia R. Diamond, Keith Huff, and Rebecca Gilman.

All performances take place at Chicago Dramatists, 1105 W. Chicago Ave.
