BRIEF: 'Chicago' coming to Drury Lane Theatre next year

May 25--Come springtime next year, Drury Lane Theatre will be the first local company to produce "Chicago" in decades, the Oak Brook Terrace-based theater announced Wednesday.

Rights for the city's namesake production have previously been unavailable, after a hit Broadway revival and subsequent successful touring productions. The latest tour, starring John O'Hurley as Billy Flynn in the Chicago stop, finished a run at the Cadillac Palace Theatre on May 15.

William Osetek, Drury Lane artistic director, will helm "Chicago," about two merry murderesses. Based on the play by former Chicago Tribune reporter Maurine Dallas Watkins that focuses on two very real 1920s Cook County trials, "Chicago" features a book by Fred Ebb and Bob Fosse, music by John Kander and lyrics by Ebb.

Casting for the production has not yet been announced.

"Chicago" is to run March 30 -- June 4, 2017 at the Drury Lane Theatre, 100 Drury Lane in Oakbrook Terrace.
