BRIEF: Chicago Children's Theatre announces new Carroll musical

Jan. 27--Callooh! Callay! Chicago Children's Theatre announced its spring musical on Tuesday.

A new adaptation of Lewis Carroll's stories called "Wonderland, Alice's Rock Roll Adventure," will be co-created by Rachel Rockwell, who will pen the book, and Michael Mahler, who will provide the score.

The title role will be alternated by young actors Ariana Burks and Isabelle Roberts, 15 and 12 years-old respectively.

They'll be joined by actors Molly Callinan, Lillian Castillo, Matt Deitchman, Jed Feder, Regina Leslie, Jake Mahler, Adam Michaels, Andrew Mueller and Matthew Yee.

Mahler's new score, according to a spokesperson for the production, has as a classic rock flair, with hints of Heart, Joan Jett, Oingo Boingo and Tenacious D, Queen and the Beatles. Rockwell will also direct the show.

Performances of "Wonderland, Alice's Rock Roll Adventure" begin on April 22 at Ruth Page Center for the Arts, 1016 N. Dearborn St., and continue through May 24. Visit chicagochildrenstheatre.org for tickets.
