Oct. 23--The producers of "Amazing Grace" have announced that DMI Soundtracks will record the cast album on Nov. 2. Six-time Grammy winner Frank Filipetti will produce and engineer the recording, set to be released in Jan. 2016.
"Amazing Grace" features music and lyrics by Christopher Smith and a book by Smith and Arthur Giron.
The musical about an Englishman's reckoning with slavery and the story behind the namesake song premiered in Chicago to mixed reviews in Oct. 2014 and opened July 2015 at the Nederlander Theater in New York.
The Broadway production will shutter Oct. 25. Details about the forthcoming national tour have yet to be announced.
