BRIEF: Chicago-area native Laurie Anderson to perform concert for dogs

Jan. 04--Performance artist Laurie Anderson is slated to host a concert for dogs Monday in New York City to honor Sept. 11 first-responder dogs.

Anderson, who grew up in Glen Ellyn, is scheduled to perform in Times Square at 11:30 p.m. Eastern time for Midnight Moment, a series in which Times Square billboards briefly turn into digital art displays. The billboards will play a three-minute video from "Heart of a Dog," Anderson's Oscar short-listed documentary that explores love after the death of her beloved terrier Lolabelle.

The concert will be broadcast at a low frequency that's friendly for dogs. Humans in attendance can listen in on wireless headphones.

Anderson, 68, performed at a concert for hundreds of dogs outside the Sydney Opera House in Australia in 2010.

"It was a beautiful sound," Anderson told The New York Times in a story posted Sunday. "They barked for five minutes. That was one of the happiest moments of my life."
