BRIEF: Charges pending in CTA bus robbery

Jan. 22--Armed robbery charges are pending against a 20-year-old man suspected of robbing a CTA bus rider Wednesday and threatening to kill the bus' driver unless he helped him escape, Chicago police said.

Police said the man was riding an eastbound No. 80-Irving Park bus Wednesday at about 9:15 p.m. when he pointed a gun at a 46-year-old man's head and took his wallet and Samsung Galaxy cell phone.

After taking the items, the man pointed the gun at the bus driver's face and threatened to kill him unless the driver opened the bus door so he could exit, police said.

Police said they apprehended the man in the 2000 block of West Belle Plaine Avenue in North Center minutes later. No injuries were reported, Officer Janel Sedevic said.

CTA spokeswoman Catherine Hosinski said the bus driver did not seek medical assistance.
