BRIEF: Charges pending after stabbing near Art Institute

June 11--Charges are pending against a 29-year-old man who allegedly stabbed another man in the neck Wednesday evening near the Art Institute in the Loop.

Both men, who appear to be homeless, got into a fight before the stabbing, police said.

The 29-year-old faces possible aggravated battery or attempted murder charges, police said. The 57-year-old victim was in critical condition as of Thursday morning, police said.

The stabbing happened at 4:43 p.m. Wednesday in the 100 block of East Monroe Street, police said.

The 57-year-old was stabbed in the neck and was taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital, where he was initially listed in serious condition, police said.

Art Institute officials provided detailed descriptions of the suspect, and he was arrested on Lower Wacker Drive after he left the scene, police said.
