Jan. 11--A 23-year-old man is accused of shooting a 15-year-old boy who was surrounded by relatives, including an infant, when he was critically hurt in the Englewood neighborhood last month, police said.
Swonn Herron, 23, of the 5000 block of South May Street, is charged with attempted murder, police said. Herron appeared for a bond hearing Sunday afternoon at the Leighton Criminal Court Building and was ordered held in lieu of $750,000 bail, according to court records.
Herron was identified as being the offender who walked up to the 15-year-old and shot him in the neck and back about 9:45 p.m. Dec. 22 in the 5900 block of South Princeton Avenue, police said. The boy was taken to Stroger Hospital, where he was in critical condition at that time, police said.
Everyone around the 15-year-old -- his sisters, 23 and 20, and his younger brother, 11 -- ducked or darted away. His nieces, 2 months and 4 years old, were unharmed, according to the victim's family, who said the 15-year-old was helping his nieces out of a car when he was shot by someone who fled in an SUV.
