BRIEF: Changing of the Gardley

Jan. 23--Marcus Gardley's drama "A Wonder in My Soul," which was to be performed in April at Victory Gardens Theater, will be replaced by a different Marcus Gardley drama, a spokeswoman for the theater said Friday.

His new play "An Issue of Blood" will instead take the spring slot, the theater said, because of the play's relevance to the present moment. Gardley began writing it in early December, 2014.

In Gardley's new play, set in 1640 West Virginia, a wealthy African-American landowner wants to marry her son to a white woman to foster peace in their community, but her plan is complicated by messy revelations about both families. Chay Yew is still slated to direct the production.

"An Issue of Blood" begins performances at Victory Gardens Biograph Theater, 2433 N. Lincoln Ave., on April 3 and continues through May 3.
