Sept. 22--Chicago area native Chaka Khan was the first celebrity to be eliminated from "Dancing with the Stars."
Khan, 62, had received low scores for her dances with professional partner Keo Motsepe after she forgot the choreography. She scored 13 out of 30 points for her "cha cha cha" last week and 15 out of 30 points for her foxtrot Monday. Judges' scores and fan votes are used to determine eliminations.
"It's been great fun. I've learned a lot about myself," Khan said Monday in a post-elimination interview.
Khan said she has stage fright, which she controls when she sings by having the first two songs of her set be "hard hitters."
"By the third song I'm acclimated and I'm really actually singing to the people. And so I don't have any time to acclimate here," said Khan, who grew up in the Hyde Park area. "I'm sorry if I let anybody down. I'm most sorry to Keo."
Motsepe tweeted Monday night that "It has been a privilege and an honor to dance with you @chakakhan."
Khan is scheduled to perform at Chicago Soulfest in November at the UIC Pavilion.
