BRIEF: Central Valley woman struck, killed by pickup in O.C.

July 27--An 85-year-old woman from the Central Valley died Sunday, one day after she was struck by a pickup truck while crossing the street in Santa Ana, authorities said.

Margarita Hernandez was in a crosswalk on McFadden Avenue near Center Street about 12:15 p.m. Saturday when the truck hit her, according to the Santa Ana Police Department.

Hernandez, a resident of Madera, Calif., was taken to the hospital in critical condition. She died after she was taken off life support, police said.

The driver of the Nissan Frontier, a woman whose name was not released, remained at the scene and cooperated with investigators, police said. Officials said the driver was not under the influence of drugs or alcohol.

Hernandez was crossing the street with another woman who suffered minor wounds including a cut to her face, police said.

Anyone with information about the collision is asked to contact Santa Ana police at (714) 245-8209.
