BRIEF: Carpentersville man sentenced to 10 years for child sexual assault

March 11--A Carpentersville man is headed to the Illinois Department of Corrections to serve a 10-year sentence in a 2013 child sexual assault case, authorities said.

Olibar Modesto, 50, of the 300 block of Delaware Street in Carpentersville, agreed to the sentence Thursday in exchange for a guilty plea to predatory criminal sexual assault, a class X felony, according to a Kane County state's attorney news release. Circuit Judge James C. Hallock accepted the plea.

Prosecutors presented evidence that on Oct. 1, 2013, Modesto sexually assaulted a young child he knew. The victim was younger than 12 years old at the time, the release stated.

In addition to the prison term, Modesto must register for life as a sexual offender in accordance with the Illinois Sexual Offender Registration Act, it stated.

According to Illinois law, he must serve at least 85 percent of the sentence. He receives credit for at least 898 days served in the Kane County Jail, where he had been held since his arrest on $2 million bail, prosecutors said.
