BRIEF: Metra train strikes car in Itasca

Jan. 13--Trains on Metra's Milwaukee District / West Line were halted Tuesday morning after a train struck a car in Itasca.

Train 2212 hit the car at the Walnut Street crossing in the northwest suburb around 7 a.m., according to Metra spokesman Tom Miller.

At least one person was in the car but further details were not immediately available, Miller said.

As of 7:45 a.m., trains in both directions were still stopped, Miller said. He could not say how long service would be halted.

North Central Service train 104 was making stops between the River Grove station and the Grand and Cicero station to accommodate West Line passengers east of the crash, according to Metra's website.
