Sept. 11--"MasterChef" is looking for Chicago-area home cooks willing to compete on the Fox show's upcoming seventh season.
An open casting call is scheduled for 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sept. 26 at the Congress Plaza Hotel, 520 S. Michigan Ave., according to the show's website.
The show's producers say you need to bring one prepared dish -- your "signature" dish, whatever that means to you -- to be served to the show's food judges. You'll have three minutes to plate the dish at the hotel's audition room. There are no cooking or warming facilities, and you'll need to bring your own dishes and utensils.
While you can attend the casting call without preregistering, preregistration is "strongly encouraged." Here's how to do that:
1. Create a profile, and pick your open call location in advance.
2. Download the application form, and bring it with you to the open call.
Last season, Chicagoan Tommy Walton was one of the final seven chefs competing on the show before he was eliminated by judges Gordon Ramsay, New York pastry chef Christina Tosi and Chicago chef Graham Elliot for making a disappointing party platter.
