Jan. 26--A barricaded man refused pleas by police to turn himself over Monday in Pasadena, but a call from his mother ended the hours-long standoff.
The man, whose name hasn't been released, had been barricaded inside an apartment at 70 N. Harkness Ave. since roughly 5 a.m., refusing to come out and talk to officers, Pasadena Police Lt. Tracey Ibarra said.
It wasn't until crisis negotiators finally got ahold of his mother that progress was made to end the standoff.
She immediately drove to the scene and talked to her son on a secure phone line. Ten minutes later, he surrendered to crisis negotiators.
The incident began about 1:30 a.m. when police received a call that a man had tried to rob a woman, Ibarra said.
Police began investigating the robbery and were eventually led to the apartment on Harkness, where the barricade situation developed.
