BRIEF: California Showcase offers prep players chance to go to college

Feb. 03--The California Showcase, a free, one-day camp to help high school football players get placed in college, will be held at Orange County Great Park in Irvine on Feb. 21.

Former UCLA Coach Terry Donahue, who runs the event with the National Football Foundation, said that more than 50 coaches from NCAA Division II and Division III universities and NAIA schools will be attendance to watch players work out.

The Showcase helped place 116 high school seniors in four-year universities and another 32 in community colleges last year, with the total financial aid packages topping $2.6 million.

High school seniors who have not accepted a scholarship to an NCAA Division I program are eligible. Players must have a 2.5 grade-point average or have scored 1,000 SAT score (math and verbal) or 18 ACT score.

Players need to bring football cleats and running shoes.
