Sept. 26--With training camp imminent, a familiar theme surfaced for the Bulls.
Mike Dunleavy, the projected starting small forward, underwent a low back microdiscectomy on Friday. The Bulls announced the veteran will miss eight to 10 weeks.
This is on top of Taj Gibson coming off left ankle surgery and Joakim Noah trying to prove the left knee troubles he experienced last season are behind him.
New coach Fred Hoiberg was expected to use a deeper rotation this season, which means Dunleavy's injury offers a prime opportunity for Tony Snell, Doug McDermott and Nikola Mirotic.
The Bulls re-signed Dunleavy during free agency after he resisted strong overtures from the Cleveland Cavaliers.
