Saturday's recap: Warriors 112, Bulls 102

Dec. 07--The summary

On Jan. 24, 1972, Chet Walker scored 29 points and Jerry Sloan added 22 as the Bulls snapped the Warriors franchise-record 11-game winning streak at the old Chicago Stadium.

Saturday night at the United Center, the Warriors avoided a repeat with a 112-102 victory.

Draymond Green scored a career-high 31 points and Klay Thompson added 24 as the Warriors won their 12th straight and tied another franchise mark with their seventh consecutive road victory.

The Warriors, who entered averaging 106.8 points, actually failed to score for the first 3 minutes, 13 seconds. But in a display of their firepower, they then dropped 20 points in the next 3:13 and led by as many as 14 in the first half.

The Bulls, who committed 23 turnovers, opened the second half with a 13-1 run and led 80-79 entering the fourth before falling to 2-5 at home. Jimmy Butler scored a team-high 24 points. Pau Gasol posted his sixth straight double-double with 22 points and 20 rebounds. And Taj Gibson returned from a six-game absence with a sprained left ankle for 12 points and seven rebounds.

Thompson and Green sank 3-pointers sandwiched around Thompson blocking Kirk Hinrich's 3-pointer to turn a two-point game into an eight-point lead midway through the fourth.

Tribune player of game

The quote

"The timing of it was tricky because the Knicks job became available before, and I was talking with (team President) Phil (Jackson) for a couple of weeks. But all along, this was a much better fit for me family-wise and from a roster and talent perspective." -- Former Bull Kerr on taking the Warriors' job over the Knicks.
