BRIEF: Bubba Watson likes shorter, puttable course at Travelers Championship

June 26--After struggling with a troublesome U.S. Open at Chambers Bay -- and missing the cut -- Bubba Watson has been more than happy to return to a kinder, gentler setting.

Watson shot a 3-under-67 on Friday to maintain his lead in the Travelers Championship at TPC River Highlands in Connecticut. His 11-under for two rounds put him three strokes ahead of Scott Brown.

"Around here you can make birdies," Watson said after an opening-round 62. "You have perfect greens."

Putting was an issue at the Open, where numerous golfers complained about conditions.

Watson earned his first PGA Tour victory at TPC River Highlands in 2010 and -- with his natural distance -- has continued to play well on the par-70 track in the years since.

"Pretty good golf course for me," he said.
