Bubba Watson beats Saints rookie quarterback in passing competition

Aug. 21--If this whole golf thing doesn't work out, Bubba Watson might have a shot at the NFL.

The No. 4 golfer in the world joined the New Orleans Saints in West Virginia at their training facility at The Greenbrier.

While there, Watson got in on a post-practice quarterback passing competition, hitting a moving target on a golf cart, and beating out Saints rookie Garrett Grayson.

"We don't hand out participation trophies," Coach Sean Payton said. "But let the record show that Bubba Watson finished ahead of our third-round draft pick.

"I don't know if that's a good thing or a bad thing."

Watson has two tour wins this season and finished second in both the Canadian Open and the WGC-Bridgestone Invitational in back-to-back events before tying for 21st at the PGA Championship.

Watson has won $5.7 million playing golf, which is more than the entirety of Grayson's four-year, $3.4-million deal.

Next weekend, Watson will be at the Plainfield Country Club for The Barclays tournament in Edison, N.J.

The Saints will host the New England Patriots on Saturday at the Mercedes-Benz Dome in New Orleans.

There, Grayson might have a chance to redeem himself.
