Bronzeville man held on $300K in Loop convenience store robbery

Dec. 22--A Bronzeville man was ordered held on $300,000 bail Sunday after prosecutors said he robbed a series of 7-Eleven convenience stores this month, including one heist in the Loop.

Ardamis Sims, 35, is charged with felony armed robbery and aggravated robbery with a firearm in the Dec. 5 and Dec. 15 incidents, according to Cook County court records.

Sims entered a 7-Eleven in the 100 block of North Franklin Street around 4:45 a.m. Dec. 5, and showed the employee a handgun in his waistband, according to county prosecutors and court records.

The employee gave Sims $20 before Sims fled, according to court records.

He entered another 7-Eleven in the 3800 block of West 55th Street in the West Elsdon neighborhood on Dec. 15 and again demanded money from the 7-Eleven employee, according to court records.

Sims, of the 4800 block of South Champlain Avenue, took $300 from that employee before fleeing, court records state.

Sims was caught on video surveillance during the second robbery, prosecutors said, and victims in both incidents identified him in a photo array.

He was arrested Friday morning in the 3900 block of South Michigan Avenue, according to court records.
