BRIEF: Broken English Taco Pub opens with free tacos through Saturday

May 06--Keep the Cinco de Mayo fiesta going: To celebrate its opening at the corner of Michigan Avenue and Lake Street in the Loop, Broken English Taco Pub is giving away free tacos through Saturday.

The restaurant, which opened Thursday morning, is a partnership between Adolfo Garcia (Son of a Butcher, Pearl Tavern) and veteran Chicago restaurateur Phil Stefani. Chef Frank Valdez created a lineup of nine tacos, from carne asada with charred green onion and chile de arbol ginger to pork belly al pastor.

Cocktails come from Tippling Brothers' Paul Tanguay and focus on mezcal. Sip a smoky old fashioned and more from one of 90 seats inside the brightly colored restaurant, or on a 40-seat patio.

Broken English is open daily 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.; the restaurant is closed Sunday, May 8 for Mother's Day.
