BRIEF: Broken English taco pub, new restaurant from Phil Stefani, opening in Loop

March 23--A new taco joint is headed to the Loop: Broken English, opening in May at 75 E. Lake St., will be a pub featuring traditional and specialty tacos and mezcal-based cocktails.

More specifically, the restaurant aims to open the week of May 5 (yes, Cinco de Mayo). Talk about hitting the ground running.

The concept is a collaboration between Adolfo Garcia (Pearl Tavern, Son of a Butcher) and longtime restaurateur Phil Stefani. The 90-seat space will affect a dive-y look with street art, mural art and an open kitchen with a taco-cart facade. (Stefani and Garcia are also partnering on an eventual River North rum bar called Flamingo Rum Club, announced in August.)

Broken English will boast 40 outdoor seats as well -- practically assuring popularity with Chicago's summer crowd, especially considering the restaurant will be a block north of Millennium Park. Margaritas, anyone?
