BRIEF: Boy, 3, in critical condition after struck by vehicle on South Side

Nov. 25--A 3-year-old boy was seriously injured after being struck by a vehicle in the Park Manor neighborhood on the South Side Wednesday afternoon.

The boy was hit around 1:45 p.m. in the 7100 block of South Wabash Avenue, said Officer Bari Lemmon, a Chicago police spokeswoman.

The boy was taken in critical condition to Comer Children's Hospital, Lemmon said.

The driver of the vehicle stayed at the location where the accident happened and was cited for not taking due care with a pedestrian in the roadway, said Officer Nicole Trainor, a police spokeswoman.

The boy was with a family member when he broke free and was struck by the vehicle, said Trainor. The child was taken to Comer Children's Hospital where he was listed in critical condition, said Trainor.
