BRIEF: Two boys, 14 and 16, wounded in separate shootings

April 07--A 14-year-old boy was in serious condition Monday afternoon after someone shot him in the Englewood neighborhood on the city's South Side.

Someone shot the boy about 2:30 p.m. in the 6500 block of South Justine Street across from Providence Englewood Charter School, formerly Bunche Elementary School.

The boy was taken to Comer Children's Hospital in serious condition, police said. Police observed shell casings on the sidewalk outside a white, pink and red frame house where the boy was found bleeding.

Blood stained the wooden staircase, and paramedics left behind an orange glove and the boy's shoes when they took him away.

Earlier Monday, a 16-year-old boy was dropped off at Holy Cross Hospital with a gunshot wound to his armpit area, police said.

It's not clear where the shooting happened. He arrived at the hospital about 10:35 a.m., and the person who dropped him off left.

The boy told police he was shot near 71st Street and Damen Avenue, but police weren't able to find a crime scene there.

The boy wasn't cooperative and initially told police he was someone else, police said.

No one is in custody.
