BRIEF: Boy charged with first-degree murder in Bridgeport shooting

June 05--A boy has been charged with first-degree murder in connection with the fatal shooting of a teenager in Chicago's Bridgeport neighborhood over the weekend.

Chicago police arrested a male juvenile who they say fatally shot a 16-year-old boy in the chest at 11:37 p.m. Friday in the 3500 block of South Parnell Avenue, according to police.

The victim, identified as Christian Bandemer of the 900 block of West 36th Street, was pronounced dead at the scene after being shot with a shotgun, according to police and the Cook County medical examiner's office.

Relatives and police initially called the shooting accidental, saying Bandemer was with a friend and cousin who were showing him the shotgun before it went off. However, a news release said the suspect "pointed a firearm at the juvenile victim and fired."

The suspect, whose age wasn't released, is expected to appear Sunday in bond court at the Leighton Criminal Court Building.

No other information was immediately available.
