Boy, 15, killed, at least 3 people hurt in shootings

Oct. 08--A 15-year-old boy was killed in Chicago Lawn and at least three other people have been wounded in shootings since Wednesday afternoon, police said.

The 15-year-old was shot in the chest about 4:40 p.m. in the 6100 block of South Rockwell Street, according to Officer Thomas Sweeney, a Chicago police spokesman.

The boy suffered gunshot wounds to his upper body and was taken to Stroger Hospital, where he was pronounced dead, Sweeney said.

Officers were called to the area following a report of gunfire and found the boy unresponsive on the sidewalk, Sweeney said.

At 10:10 p.m., a 22-year-old man was shot in Morgan Park, said Officer Ron Gaines, a police spokesman.

He was outside smoking a cigarette in the 11400 block of South May Street when someone approached and fired shots. He was grazed in the chest and taken in fair condition to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn.

At about 8:30 p.m., a 21-year-old man was shot in Englewood, Gaines said.

He was a passenger in a vehicle in the 5600 block of South May Street when someone on foot fired shots.

He was struck in the neck and cheek and taken to Holy Cross Hospital. He then was transferred to Mount Sinai Hospital in good condition.

At about 7 p.m., a 17-year-old boy was shot in the back in the Woodlawn neighborhood, Sweeney said.

The teen told police he was walking near the 6400 block of South Ellis Avenue when he heard shots and felt pain in his back. He was taken to Comer Children's Hospital and his condition was stabilized.

No one was in custody, and detectives were investigating.
