Jan. 20--A 15-year-old boy was ordered held in lieu of $2 million bail after being charged with first-degree murder in the weekend slaying of a Roseland neighborhood teen.
Prosecutors said Diasee Scott, of the 9500 block of South Green Street, was with a group of friends Saturday evening when they saw another group of teens near 95th and Halsted streets.
Both groups began yelling out gang slogans and shortly after started fighting, said prosecutors.
Chicago Police Department officers were southbound on Halsted Street when they encountered the fight, and one of the officers saw Scott pull out a weapon and fire three times, striking 18-year-old Bernard Pippen, said prosecutors.
Pippen, of the 11000 block of South State Street, was killed by a gunshot wound to his neck and through his chest, according to the Cook County medical examiner's office. Scott, who was charged as an adult, then looked at the officer and took off running from the scene.
A police helicopter was deployed to the scene and Scott was caught hiding about a block away from the shooting, said prosecutors.
A witness and one of the tactical officers identified Scott as the shooter, said prosecutors and police.
