Dec. 26--A 12-year-old boy was killed Friday when he was struck by a car while riding a motorized scooter in San Antonio Heights, according to authorities.
The boy was hit about 11:50 a.m. on East 24th Street near North Campus Avenue, California Highway Patrol officials said.
Family members told NBC4 the boy received the scooter as a Christmas gift.
The driver remained on the scene. The incident is still under investigation, but the driver was not arrested, officials said.
The boy, who according to family was wearing a helmet, was airlifted to a hospital, officials said.
