BRIEF: Bomb squad in San Diego finds drugs under vehicle, not explosives

Jan. 12--A suspicious package beneath a car at a San Diego gas station Monday morning proved to have drugs, not an explosive device, a spokesman for the Fire-Rescue Department said.

The bomb squad had responded to a call after the package was spotted taped beneath a car at gas station in the Murphy Canyon area. The gas station was closed and employees of nearby businesses were evacuated.

Bomb technicians examined the package and found that it had drugs. The car had recently returned from Mexico, a spokesman said.

The gas station has reopened and employees of nearby business returned to work. The case was transferred from the Fire-Rescue Department to the Police Department.
