BRIEF: Body of man, 58, found in vehicle submerged in 31st Street Harbor identified

Dec. 15--Officials have identified the 58-year-old man whose body was recovered Monday from a car that was submerged in Lake Michigan at the 31st Street Harbor, officials said.

Mark Grabowski of the 4400 block of North Knox Avenue was found in a silver Kia Rio sedan submerged in the water, according to the Cook County medical examiner's office.

An autopsy conducted on Tuesday was inconclusive and the cause and manner of the man's death is pending additional tests, according to the office.

Police and fire crews were called at 2:14 p.m. Monday to the 3100 block of South Lake Shore Drive after a vehicle was found in the water near a boat ramp, said Officer Nicole Trainor, a police spokeswoman. The vehicle was a silver Kia Rio sedan, according to witnesses.

Chicago Fire Department spokesman Jeff Lyle said paramedics responded as Chicago police marine unit divers found the vehicle in the water.

Trainor said divers found the body in the vehicle. Police think the car may have gone into the water between Sunday night and early Monday morning.

Police said that they have opened a death investigation.
