BRIEF: Body found in burning garbage can in Brighton Park

June 14--Officials found a body of an adult in a garbage can that someone set on fire Saturday evening in the Brighton Park neighborhood on the Southwest Side.

Fire Department officials responded to a call of a garbage can on fire in an alley in the 4200 block of South Kedzie Avenue around 9:55 p.m., police said.

Once the fire was extinguished, officials found remains of an adult inside the trash container. The person's gender was not immediately known, said Officer Jose Estrada, a Chicago Police Department spokesman.

Officials are conducting an arson investigation and a death investigation in connection with the incident, Estrada said.

As of early Sunday morning, the cause of the person's death was not immediately clear.
