BRIEF: Body found floating in MacArthur Park lake; police investigating

Jan. 15--A body was found floating in the MacArthur Park lake Thursday morning, Los Angeles police said.

A passerby near 7th and Alvarado streets in Westlake called paramedics about 8 a.m. after seeing a body floating near the lake's edge, said Los Angeles Fire Department spokeswoman Katherine Main. The person appeared to have drowned, but a cause of death has not been determined, officials said.

LAPD homicide investigators were dispatched to the scene to investigate, a standard procedure for undetermined deaths. Police officials said the gender of the deceased person was not available and it was unclear if anyone witnessed how the person ended up in the lake.

The Los Angeles County coroner is also investigating.
