BRIEF: Body found along Metra tracks near Glen Ellyn

Dec. 20--A Metra train in the western suburbs was delayed Saturday evening while emergency responders removed a body from near the tracks between Glen Ellyn and Wheaton, a Metra spokesman said.

The 511 train, scheduled to arrive in Elburn at 7:06 p.m., was delayed by about half an hour after an operator on an earlier freight train saw a body 'on or near the tracks" between Glen Ellyn and College Avenue stations, said Tom Miller, a Metra spokesman.

It was unclear if the body was struck by an earlier freight train, Miller said.

The crew of an eastbound train saw a body near the tracks in Glenn Ellyn, west of the Prospect Avenue crossing, about 6:10 p.m. Saturday, said Union Pacific spokesperson Calli Hite.

Union Pacific has three tracks that operate in Glen Ellyn, one of which remained stopped late this evening, Hite said.
