BRIEF: Body discovered inside of burning home on South Side

June 21--The body of a man was discovered Friday evening inside of a burning home on the South Side in the city's Chatham neighborhood.

Chicago firefighters responded to a single-family home located on the 300 block of East 88th Place, and found the burned remains of the man on the second floor of the structure, said Cmdr. Will Knight, a spokesman for the Chicago Fire Department.

The man was identified as Novell Norris, 55, of the block in which he died, according to the Cook County medical examiner's office. After an autopsy, the medical examiner said that Norris died of smoke inhalation and thermal injuries in an apartment fire and ruled that his death was accidental.

Firefighters reported there were no working smoke detectors inside of the home.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
