Feb. 28--Hall of Fame play-by-play announcer Bob Miller said Friday he has officially informed the Kings that he would like to return next season, which would be his 43rd as one of their broadcast voices.
Miller, 76, said before the Kings faced the Ducks on Friday that he had sent an actual letter to relay his decision, not an email, because he thought a letter was more official and appropriate. The Kings have not yet received his letter, and a club spokesman had no immediate comment.
For the past several years, Miller has taken it a year at a time and has agreed to tell the club by March 1 whether he wants to return for the next season. Travel and the rigors of describing an ever-faster game can take a toll, but Miller's engagement has remained constant. When they slumped, he was sometimes indignant on the air over a bad play or missed scoring opportunity; when they bounced back, his enthusiasm came through clearly.
"That eight-game winning streak had something to do with it," he said, smiling.
The Kings had won eight straight games and climbed back into a playoff position before they lost to Ottawa on Thursday.
