BRIEF: Blue Line stopped for half-hour after person falls on tracks on West Side

Oct. 14--CTA Blue Line trains on the West Side were stopped for about half an hour this afternoon as Chicago Fire Department crews worked to remove a person from the tracks.

Blue Line trains were standing in the area of the Illinois Medical District stop, 430 S. Damen Ave., because of "an unauthorized person on the tracks," according to the CTA's website.

CTA officials were notified at 1:16 p.m. that someone had fallen on the tracks at the station, and power on the line was turned off between the Kedzie-Homan and LaSalle stations, said Catherine Hosinski, a CTA spokeswoman. Trains were moving again about 1:48 p.m. after a sick passenger was taken care of, according to the CTA, correcting earlier information about the time trains were moving again.

Preliminary information was that the person who fell on the tracks did not touch the third rail and was not hit by a train, Hosinski said.

A person was taken in serious-to-critical condition to Stroger Hospital for treatment, according to a Chicago Fire Department spokesman.
