BRIEF: Block 37 picks Trendy Sparrow for pop-up shop

Nov. 12--Online shop Trendy Sparrow is the winner of Block 37's second annual pop-up shop contest, giving the Chicago business free bricks-and-mortar space this holiday season to sell what it touts as "chic home decor mixing vintage class with modern sass."

Trendy Sparrow also sells clothing, mugs, notebooks and art prints.

The business is owned and run by Lindzi Shanks, who has made it her full-time job since June 2014. She said she makes some of the products, namely the art prints, herself. The mugs, journals and clothing are made by a couple of outside companies, but Shanks said she designs everything.

"I'm keeping it local," she said.

A "You had me at pumpkin spice lattes" sweater sells for $55 online.

Block 37 is a shopping and dining center that takes up an entire block in Chicago's Loop neighborhood.

Trendy Sparrow will get space on the second level during the holiday season, starting Nov. 27. A total of 15 businesses entered the contest.

Last year's winner was Milk Handmade, a womenswear boutique in Chicago's Andersonville neighborhood.
