Jan. 27--The first period was about as bad as it gets for the Blackhawks.
The Hurricanes spent most of the period in the Hawks zone and came away with three goals. It was among the Hawks' worst periods of the season.

The Hurricanes continued sustaining their zone pressure throughout the period and got their second goal when Riley Nash redirected a shot that appeared to go in off Niklas Hjalamrsson a13:05.
They weren't done.
Former Hawk Kris Versteeg set up John-Michael Liles on a breakaway for the third goal and a commanding 3-0 lead. The Hawks, meanwhile, could muster just five shots on goal.
