Nov. 07--The summary
The Blackhawks looked uninspired from the start against the Devils, who defeated the Hawks 4-2 to hand the Hawks their fourth loss in five games. Adding injury to insult, the Hawks lost center Artem Anisimov to a lower-body injury in the second period. Anisimov did not return. Patrick Kane and Tanner Kero scored for the Hawks while the Devils got goals from Lee Stempniak, Kyle Palmieri, Travis Zajac and Mike Cammalleri.
Switch it up
So far this season, coach Joel Quenneville has not pulled either Corey Crawford of Scott Darling mid-game. That changed Friday night when Quenneville replaced Crawford with Darling to start the second period after Crawford allowed three goals in the first period. Quenneville then pulled Darling with 6 minutes, 42 seconds remaining in a last-ditch comeback attempt.

Captain Jonathan Toews, likely trying to rally the uninspired Hawks, picked a fight with the Devils' Adam Henrique, a fight Toews got the best of. It was Toews first fight since Feb. 15, 2013 against the Sharks' Joe Thornton.
That hurts
The Hawks lost one of their best contributors throughout the early part of the season. Anisimov finished his last shift of the night at 12 minutes, 32 seconds of the second period and did not return because of a lower-body injury. The last thing the Hawks need is another injury with Duncan Keith, Michal Rozsival and Marian Hossa already banged up.
