Dec. 15--The Blackhawks traded forward Jeremy Morin to the Blue Jackets for defenseman Tim Erixon on Sunday.
Erixon will make his debut tonight as a third-line defenseman with Michal Rozsival against the Flames at the United Center. The puck drops at 7.
"He plays the left side, a nice spot," coach Joel Quenneville said. "He and Rozie look like it could be a good pair for us. He's played some games and he's looking to get established and get that continued rotation, showing he could play at our level. Ee'll find out more about him tonight. I think he could compliment our team game as well."
Erixon said of joining the Hawks: "It should be fun. Always a great atmosphere (at the UC). I love playing here."
On Tuesday, the Blackhawks sent Morin down to the Rockford IceHogs for a conditioning assignment. He was a healthy scratch the last eight games, having not taken the ice since Nov. 20 against the Calgary Flames.
Morin had no points in 15 games with the Hawks this season while taking 28 shots and picking up 15 penalty minutes.
"Jeremy is a young, strong forward with a very good shot, who has been a productive offensive player throughout his career," Blue Jackets general manager Jarmo Kekalainen said. "Given our depth at defense, this was an opportunity for us to add a very good player with a lot of potential on the other end."
The 23-year-old Erixon has six points (1G, 5A), including five power-play points (1G, 4A), in 19 games with the Blue Jackets this season.
Also on Sunday, the Blackhawks reassigned defenseman Klas Dahlbeck to Rockford. The 23-year-old scored one goal in four games with the Blackhawks this season.
