BRIEF: Blackhawks sign Cameron Schilling, Michael Liambas to deals

July 02--The Chicago Blackhawks have bolstered their depth on defense with a pair of free-agent signings.

The team announced Thursday that it had agreed to terms with Cameron Schilling on a two-year contract and Michael Liambas on a one-year deal.

The 26-year-old Schilling appeared in four games with the Washington Capitals last season but spent the bulk of the time with Hershey of the AHL and had three goals and 15 assists.

Liambas, 26, had five goals, three assists and 158 penalty minutes in 54 games with the Milwaukee Admirals of the AHL last season.

General manager Stan Bowman continues to explore deals for veteran wingers Patrick Sharp and Bryan Bickell to help the Hawks clear room under the NHL's $71.4 million salary cap for next season.
