May 22--The Blackhawks called up rookie defenseman Trevor van Riemsdyk from their Rockford affiliate in the AHL.
Van Riemsdyk, 23, had surgery on his right wrist on April 7 and was expected to be out approximately eight weeks, so his return is roughly on schedule.
The Blackhawks' depth on defense has been an issue during the Western Conference final series against Anaheim. David Rundblad and Kyle Cumiskey have been filling in as the sixth defenseman after Michal Rozsival was hurt in the final game of the second-round series against Minnesota.
An undrafted free agent, van Riemsdyk made the team out of training camp and played in 18 games but broke his knee cap on Nov. 16. He was working his way back into shape with Rockford before the wrist injury sidelined him again.
