Feb. 26--SUNRISE, Fla. -- The worst-case scenario hit for the Chicago Blackhawks when the team announced Wednesday that winger Patrick Kane had surgery to repair a left clavicle fracture and will be sidelined approximately 12 weeks.
The procedure was performed at Northwestern Memorial Hospital by Hawks team physicians Michael Terry and Bradley Merk.
"Patrick underwent successful surgery today to repair his left clavicle fracture," Terry said in a statement. "The procedure went very well and we anticipate a full recovery in approximately 12 weeks."
Kane, tied for the most points in the NHL and a serious candidate for the Hart Trophy awarded to the league's most valuable player, was injured during the Hawks' 3-2 shootout victory over the Florida Panthers on Tuesday night. Kane fell awkwardly into the boards after a cross check from the Panthers' Alex Petrovic and left the ice immediately.
The Hawks recalled forward Teuvo Teravainen from Rockford of the AHL on Wednesday to replace Kane on the roster. The Hawks will face the Panthers in Sunrise, Fla. on Thursday night without Kane.
